From the Director

The summer has arrived with a vengeance. We recently hosted 12 young ladies from George Mason University who stayed in our Waveland home while working for Gaits To Success….a therapeutic horseback riding program for handicapped children. they helped out at Hope Haven as well and enjoyed a welcome break at a pool party we held for them at my house. One of the interesting things we have noted with all of the volunteer groups (especially the college groups) is that many more women volunteer than men. We have also noted that many of the volunteers are vegans….and that we see some names popping up over and over. Rachel, Mary, Ruth…. No idea why or what it means…but I find it interesting.

We recently installed an above ground swimming pool at our country home location. It is going to be a wonderful addition to our home and of course the kids just love it. WE COULD USE SOME POOL TOYS for the pool if anyone has any they want to donate!

The Helping Hands Fund is winding down. We have put several thousand dollars aside to pay for local foster parents to send their foster children (and their own children) to summer camp for one week.

FOSTER PARENTS FOR OUR WAVELAND HOME. WE ARE STILL LOOKING. THIS IS AN EXCELLENT OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE A REAL DIFFERENCE. WE OFFER FREE RENT, UTILITIES, FOOD, GAS AND WE PAY FOR ALL OF THE EXPENSES ASSOCIATED WITH CARING FOR THE KIDS! IF YOU ARE A MARRIED COUPLE, OVER 21, RESIDENT OF THE STATE FOR 1 ONE YEAR….AND LIKE KIDS…..GIVE US A CALL. YOU MAY HAVE ONE CHILD YOURSELF. CALL 466 6395

READERS BULLETIN BOARD

We would like to make this website more interactive and invite you, the reader, to “talk to us” more. Send in stories about you and your experiences or situations you had as a child. The stories may be about abusive or neglectful situations…or they may be about good things that has happened in your lives..or about issues surrounding children and foster care. We welcome poetry about children or families, experiences about working with the State agencies involved in children's issues, even good recipes for large families! Please remember, anything you send will be available for everyone to read on our bulletin board …so please do not write anything that you do not want “the world” to know about. We will run our new bulletin board for about six months and then decide if it “works”. Please note, since our webpage may be visited by children, please refrain from including and graphic language that would be unsuitable for them to read. Thank You!

Click here to send your story. Look for stories to be posted soon
