Thanks Melissa!
Melissa Quagliata,  has a passion for pigs...stuffed pigs that is and she has spent many years collecting them.  For many, giving away such a collection would be painful...if not impossible. But Melissa is quite a young woman and she recently sent us and several other children shelters her childhood friends.  We will get them in the hands of children who will love them!  Thanks Melissa

Hope Haven's Hero!
Twelve year old Ashley Colcote is one of those kids who restores faith in the young people of today. For the 8th year in a row, Ashely held a fundraiser on Make A Difference Day to benefit the children of Hope Haven.  Ashley and her friends held a carwash and also sold candy apples,  raising over $1,000 for Hope Haven. Over the years, she has raised thousands of dollars, and has collected hundreds of toys and gift cards for our children.  Check out this young lady's My Space page to see some photos from the carwash and to be inspired

Hancock kids donate birthday presents to help abused children

Try taking birthday gifts away from an "average" 12-year-old boy, and you might have an argument on your hands. Imagine trying to take birthday gifts away from three 12-year-old boys. Now imagine three twelve- year-old boys volunteering to give up their birthday gifts and donate them to less fortunate children.

That is exactly what happened last week. Kody Cannon, Eric Cranford and Austin Ladner all cel ebrated their 12th birthday last week, and instead of collecting gifts for themselves, they had all of their friends and relatives buy gifts for children who are staying in Hope Haven Shelter due to being abused or neglected.

Kody's mom, Julie came to the Hope Haven office with five large lawn bags of gifts suitable for all ages on Tuesday. She explained that the three boys felt that they had plenty of toys and that they felt that the children staying in Hope Haven needed toys more than they did. The families of all three hoys are very proud of their respective son's generosity and thoughtfulness.

"I am impressed with the character of these young men" says the Hope Haven director. "At a time when adults are worried about the character and substance of our young people, these three boys remind us that most of our young people are good and can contribute to our community and society if they are allowed to."

The gifts were put to good use immediately. Three "very frightened" children had just entered the shelter.

Covenant Christian students hold clothing drive

The students at Covenant Christian School in Gulfport recently held a drive to collect socks and underwear for the children at Hope Haven In Bay St. Louis. Pictured are Kathy Burns' second-grade class as they gathered the donations, which were then delivered.

Thank You Ashley!

Appreciated

Nine year old Ashley Calcote is a veteran when it come to giving. It is something she loves to do. For three years now she has been giving toys and more to the children of Hope Haven Shelter in Waveland. Ashley's Christmas donations have had a total value of over $3,000 over the years. This year she donated about $600 worth of toys and gift cards to the shelter. Ashley raises the money for her donations by saving her weekly allowance and by donating the gifts from her birthday party in October. This year she also held two fundraisers. She has been featured in Girls Life Magazine and People. Ashley says it is easy to figure out why she does what she does. "It makes me feel wonderful, great, and awesome inside," she says. "Because I know that I am doing something good for other kids." On Monday she was presented with a certificate of appreciation from shelter director Terry Latham as she delivered the gifts.
